Monthly Meeting Speaker Mike Humphreys, DEEP Fisheries Biologist, "Trout Streams & Housatonic Fisheries"

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 - 7:00pm

Naugatuck-Pomperaug Trout Unlimited will host guest speaker Michael Humphreys, CT DEEP Fisheries Biologist.

It looks like we will finally get a break in the winter weather. The combination of late snow, an early Opening Day (April 8th), and reduced availability of fish at the hatcheries, is making this year very challenging for folks at DEEP Fisheries.

During his presentation Mike will highlight some of the recent findings regarding trout management in the Housatonic- Cornwall TMA, talk about the severe drought during the summer of 2016 and its effects on trout streams, and discuss two native Brook Trout restoration efforts: one on the Mill River in Fairfield, and the other on Deep Brook in Newtown.

With a Masters Degree in Fisheries, Mike has worked as a professional Fisheries Biologist for the past 36 years, the last 27 years with DEEP studying and managing Connecticut’s trout streams, with emphasis on surveying stream fish populations, establishing and managing Wild Trout Management Areas, and studying and managing Housatonic River fisheries.

The doors open at 6:30, and the chapter meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Join us for pizza, soda, commaraderie and conversation with fellow anglers ... and don’t miss a chance at some great raffle items!
